In 1999, Lumileds Corporation of the United States, introduced the Luxeon LED, a high-power white-light emitter. This breakthrough made LED torches more efficient in their use of power than conventional torches with bulbs. The first Luxeon LED torch is said to be the Arc LS, designed in 2001. Since the first LED torch became available many more manufacturers have now produced their own LED torches.
